Topped with a classic chocolate butter cream frosting these cupcakes are super delicious and rich.

Great to enjoy as an afternoon snake or an after-dinner treat.

Delicious and full of chocolate goodness. Not a big fan of chocolate, switch out the chocolate buttercream frosting for a vanilla or strawberry buttercream and the results will still be amazing.

How to make these cupcakes

This simple homemade chocolate cupcake recipe is fast and easy to make and all in just one bowl.

Add all your dry ingredients to a large bowl and mix them altogether.

To your dry ingredients add the eggs, oil, vanilla, and milk.

With a hand whisk or electric beater mix until all combined.

Scrape down the sides of your bowl and then slowly beat in the hot water.

 And that is the cupcake batter done supper simple and fast.

 Your cupcake batter with be a very runny, but do not worry your cupcake will cook up light and fluffy.

 Full your cupcake liners ¾ of the way up and bake for 18 -20 minutes.

This recipe makes 18 – 20 cupcakes.

Chocolate buttercream frosting

This creamy rich chocolate buttercream frosting is the best, it is perfect for piping and will hold its shape.

Beat butter until light and creamy in colour.

Next beat in your vanilla, cocoa and 2 cup of icing sugar, but add the icing sugar 1/2 cup at a time beating on low speed for 30 seconds before adding the next 1/2 cup of icing sugar.

Slowly adding 3 tablespoons of the heavy cream.

continue to beat on high speed for 2 minutes.

Add the other ½ cup of icing sugar as need to get a good piping consistency or add more cream if needed.

Ingredients

Chocolate Cupcakes

  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • cup cocoa
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
  • 2 eggs
  • cup oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup hot water

Chocolate buttercream frosting

  • 200 grams salted butter
  • cups icing sugar powder sugar
  • cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla essence
  • 3-4 tablespoons cream

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 160°C / 320°F
  • Line muffin pans with cupcake liners. This recipe will make 18 -20 cupcakes
