Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe
Homemade sweet and creamy caramel sauce
This homemade caramel sauce recipe is rich and creamy and very easy to make.
You only need 3 ingredients to make this caramel sauce, and it only takes around 15 minutes to make.
How to make homemade caramel sauce
Add your sugar to a heavy base saucepan and place on a low heat.
Stir until sugar has dissolved. It will take about 5-10 minutes for the sugar lumps to dissolve once they are all melted it will not take long for the sugar to turn a dark amber colour.
The Sugar will clump together to start with but as it heats it will melt to a liquid and start to caramelize, you want your sugar to go a dark amber colour. Be careful not to burn your sugar, once it starts to change colour keep a close eye on it.
Once your sugar is a lovely dark amber colour take it off the heat.
Slowly add the cream a little at a time, as you add the cream it will bubble up so make sure you are using a saucepan that is big enough to allow for this.
Once you have mixed in all the cream add the butter and stir until it has all melted.
Now your caramel sauce is all ready to use.
Let cool a little before pouring into a glass jar or container
The caramel sauce will thicken as it cools.
This recipe makes just under 1 cup of caramel sauce.
If you are after more, you can double this recipe.
